Example clock 2:00 pm–5:00 pm. Set your own. Shape does not change: 1h setup → 1h testing → 1h breakdown.
Critical
- Split athletes into three concurrent groups. Do not allow single-file queues.
- If a sensor loses calibration mid-session, pivot immediately to backup manual tracking. Protect the 60-minute hard ceiling.
- Athletes route through intake (medical readiness, equipment, workload) before they warm up.
- Do not mix laser-gate and stopwatch numbers in the same block. One timing method, labeled.
Intake — before warm-up
- Medical readiness verified.
- Equipment checked — bat certification band, footwear, any catcher gear.
- Workload checked. Athlete is cleared for a full testing hour.
01 · Setup & calibration · 1 hour · ~20 min a station
Hitting station
HitTrax / portable tracker · 20m
- HitTrax / portable tracker deployed at the designated cage.
- Mandatory batter’s box marked.
- BDA-approved test bats staged by certification band — USA, USSSA, BBCOR. Do not mix results without the band.
- Automated pitching machine set, or front-toss screen exactly 25 feet from the plate.
- Live capture confirmed. Session named: date + Gauntlet. Not Untitled.
Defense / throwing station
Radar · target net · 20m
- Radar in line with the throw path — not off-angle.
- Marker cones at infield / outfield start points for the active challenge tier.
- Standard target net at first base or the designated receiving zone. Net, not a human first baseman.
- Fungo / machine operator assigned. Ball difficulty stays consistent for the recorded set.
- This runbook open at the station. If the unit blanks, the number still gets entered here.
Speed / athleticism station
Laser gates · broad-jump mat · 20m
- Laser gates at the 0-yard start and the 10-yard acceleration finish. Walk-through trigger test.
- 30-foot Home-to-First track measured and taped. RHH protocol posted.
- Calibrated standing broad-jump mat down. Edges secured.
- Surface clean. Footwear-type requirement posted and noted on the card.
- Backup stopwatches staged. If the gates die, the whole block goes MANUAL — do not mix methods.
02 · Active testing · 1 hour · 60-min hard ceiling
Hard ceiling: 60 minutes. When the hour is gone, testing is done — even if a group is mid-set.
| Window | Group 1 | Group 2 | Group 3 |
|---|
| Rotation 1 · 0–20 · 3:00–3:20 | Hitting | Defense / throwing | Speed / athleticism |
| Rotation 2 · 20–40 · 3:20–3:40 | Defense / throwing | Speed / athleticism | Hitting |
| Rotation 3 · 40–60 · 3:40–4:00 | Speed / athleticism | Hitting | Defense / throwing |
Rotate Hitting → Defense → Speed. Three groups concurrent. No single-file queues.
Hitting pillar
HitTrax
Mandatory 45-second pause between swings. Fatigue must not move exit velocity.
On the floor
- Eight standardized reps against the athlete’s rank-appropriate input.
- L1 is tee / front toss. L4 is a three-zone machine sequence. Do not mix inputs inside a recorded set.
- Write bat certification in the Scorecard tab. USA, USSSA, and BBCOR do not share a column.
- Capture max EV, average EV, contact rate, productive-contact %, and directional success (of 8).
Execution
- Recorded set: 8 standardized reps
- Rest: 45 seconds between swings
- Directional: Success / 8
Capture / 100
- Average EV (mph · 30.0)
- Maximum EV (mph · 16.0)
- Contact rate (% · 20.0)
- Productive contact (% · 20.0)
- Directional success (/ 8 · 14.0)
Defensive & throwing pillar
Radar · target net
A dedicated coach is the fungo or machine operator. Ball difficulty stays consistent.
On the floor
- Ten fielding reps. Binary boxes only: success or failure. No half-credit.
- Target is the net at first / receiving zone — not a human first baseman.
- Throwing velocity is a standardized positional throw, not mound velocity.
- Accuracy is out of 20. Transfer, clean fielding, complete play, and first-move prep are each out of 10.
Execution
- Fielding reps: 10 · binary score
- Accuracy: Out of 20
- Operator: One dedicated coach
Capture / 100
- Positional throw velo (mph · 30.0)
- Throwing accuracy (/ 20 · 20.0)
- Efficient transfer (/ 10 · 14.0)
- Clean fielding (/ 10 · 14.0)
- Complete play (/ 10 · 12.0)
- First-move prep (/ 10 · 10.0)
Speed & athleticism pillar
Laser gates · manual backup
One timing method for the whole block. Do not mix laser-gate and stopwatch data.
On the floor
- Home-to-First uses the RHH protocol. Left-handed standards are a separate chart.
- Two trials on each timed event. Keep the best valid time.
- Finish with two standing broad-jump attempts. Evaluate body control on the jump.
- If the gates die: stopwatch immediately, mark MANUAL on every time, keep the group moving.
Execution
- Timed events: H2F · 10-yard · 5-10-5
- Trials: 2 each · keep best
- Broad jump: 2 attempts + body control
Capture / 100
- Home-to-First (RHH) (sec · 30.0)
- 10-yard acceleration (sec · 20.0)
- 5-10-5 pro agility (sec · 20.0)
- Standing broad jump (in · 16.0)
- Body control (/ 10 · 14.0)
Hitting input by rank
- L1: Tee or controlled front toss

- L5–L6: Game-speed range, recovery, time pressure
- L7–L8: Position-specific advanced situations
03 · Breakdown & data sync · 1 hour
Data preservation · 30 min · IT responsibility
- IT exports HitTrax / tracker / radar files off every device before power-down. If it only lives on the unit, it is not saved.
- IT confirms every athlete’s capture is in this runbook (Scorecard tab) plus the device export.
- IT loads the session into each 360 Athlete Profile — scores, excellence points, and minimum pillar floors.
- IT converts raw results to performance indexes against the active-rank matrix. That math is not a floor job.
- Coach hold: do not unplug until IT says the devices are clear. Flag MANUAL times and mixed-cert bats in the notes so IT has them.
Equipment pack-out · 30 min · Coach responsibility
- Power down and case radar units, laser gates, and tracking tablets.
- Return test bats to inventory by certification band.
- Cones, tape, nets, mat — off the floor.
- Lanes restored. Field House is shared space.
- Walk the floor once. If you can still see a cone, you are not done.
Station order: Hitting → Defense / throwing → Speed / athleticism. Groups: Group 1, Group 2, Group 3. Capture in this runbook. IT preserves device files and 360 profiles.
